Golf Kohler: In the New and Old Worlds

This 308-page, six-book set chronicles the unlikely story of Kohler Co., the world's largest bathroom fixture manufacturer, becoming a world leader in golf venues.

Kohler Co. owns five 18-hole golf courses so the six book set was conceived to allow each course to have it's own picture book documenting the amazing course designs. The sixth book is the history of how golf came to be part of the Kohler Co. legacy.

There are "ball markers" embossed and foil stamped on the outside of the slip case and cover of the history book. There is one ball marker for each of the three venues owned by Kohler Co., Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, and The Dukes in St Andrews, Scotland.

Sepia-tone images of the golf courses were used throughout the history book, helping to give it a more historic feel.

The photos used for the chapter openers were repeated on the covers and back covers of the course books. This helped to visually tie the history book to the course books. The circle containing the caption in the photos is the same size as a golf ball.

The grid of each page has 18 columns, loosely representing the 18 holes of a golf course. The text blocks and images were allowed to float within the grid freely, allowing for an infinite number of possibilities for the layout of each spread. No spread is alike, and no hole in golf is ever the same when you play it.

The covers of the course books utlized full-bleed images to distinguish them from the history book and to make it clear that they are image books.

The same image from the cover of the book is repeated in color on the first page of the book.

All 24 pages of the course books are filled with large images of all 18 holes of that course. While the history book is full of information and text, the course books are meant to let the reader relax and take in the beauty of each of the courses.

The last spread of each course book contains detailed information about each hole along with an illustration of each hole.

The back cover of each of the course books is another full-bleed photo so that the outside of the book is nothing but image.

The Golf Kohler book can be purchased at the Kohler Co. website. Both a hard-cover and soft-cover version are available.
