Dead Sea Scrolls and the Bible
Scrolls hidden for nearly 2,000 years in caves along the Dead Sea contained the earliest biblical writings so far found—writings that have influenced world history and religion. This is the catalogue for the exhibition presented by the Milwaukee Public Museum showcasing a collection of manuscripts and artifacts highlighting one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time.
Foil stamping was used on the cover to help give a sense of how important the documents are that are contained within the book.
Uncoated paper with some texture was chosen for the body of the book. It served to make the images of these ancient fragments feel more authentic then if they were printed on a glossy sheet. The softness of the paper stock helps to make this catalogue feel very comfortable in the hand as it is explored.
Quotes from the fragments are highlighted throughout the book, bringing to life the ancient language that appears on these scrolls.
Some of the pages folded out to reveal more details and information about certain fragments. This helped to created a sense of exploration and discovery for the reader.
