Dan Saal has an unparalleled passion for creating nonformulaic publications for a wide variety of institutions. He likes to collaborate with clients who are interested in pushing the boundaries of what a great book experience can be. He is extremely thoughtful about his design solutions and is not interested in just making things look pretty.

Dan graduated with a degree in graphic design from Drake University in 1994 and has worked in a variety of design environments ever since. He started working for Think Corporation in Des Moines Iowa right out of college and became a partner of the firm within two years. In 1998 the company moved its offices to Washington, D.C. in order to partner with The History Factory. While there, Dan acted as senior designer on a variety of publication and environmental design projects for fortune 100 companies. Dan founded StudioSaal Corporation in 2000 and continues to build a consistent client base of primarily non-profit and arts institutions. In 2004, After a three month sabatical in Alaska, Dan moved back to his hometown of Milwaukee and in 2005 he took the position of director of design and publications at the Milwaukee Art Museum. While at the museum he managed the design department staff and oversaw the design and production of all of the museum's printed materials and exhibition graphics. During his tenure at the Milwaukee Art Museum Dan designed five exhibition catalogues for the Museum and two books for his own clients. Six of those books have gone on to win national design awards.

Dan left the museum in 2008 to focus his attention on his own clients and projects while continuing to design catalogues for the Milwaukee Art Museum. His primary business is doing publication and exhibition design but he does a wide variety of projects for his clients including print, identity, environmental, and web.
